Ravensbourne University London hosts 'Rave LATE: The Beautiful Game' – a celebration of football's creative industry
Ravensbourne University London is back with its evening event series, and recently hosted Rave LATE: The Beautiful Game, an exciting event that explored the number of creative opportunities available within the football industry.
Football is not just our national sport — it’s a multi-billion-pound institution that offers a wealth of opportunities for the creative sector. From yearly kit launches to promotional films, merchandising, apps, websites, and endless streams of social media content, football drives demand for cutting-edge creative work. From the Premier League to the top international clubs, our creative agencies lead the way in packaging and promoting one of the UK’s most valuable economic assets.
The event took place on Thursday 14 November 2024, in the Walker Space at Ravensbourne, located in the heart of London’s design district in North Greenwich.
It brought together leading creative minds from some of the world’s top agencies, including Weirdo, DixonBaxi, and Uncommon Creative Studio, to discuss how football is driving innovation in branding, media, and fan engagement.
This event highlights some of the many incredibly diverse and renowned industry connections that Ravensbourne maintains.
quote from DixonBaxi
The connection between our industry and education is hugely important. The next generation of graduates brings fresh perspectives, keeping studios alive. We take it (student intake) very seriously through initiatives like our intern academy, giving graduates their first opportunity to work in a studio. We focus on promoting from within, creating clear pathways for interns to grow into roles like Junior Designers.”
The key topics covered included how Weirdo created content to build an authentic and diverse fan community around Arsenal FC, with a particular focus on the club's 2024-25 kit launch.
DixonBaxi shared their approach to launching TNT Sports in partnership with BT Group and Warner Bros. Discovery, discussing how they reshaped the sports channel.
Additionally, Uncommon Creative Studio highlighted their innovative branding work for Chelsea, including the award-winning 2024-25 home kit launch, as well as their creative contribution to EA Sports' EA FC campaign.
