The BBC Motion Graphics Archive, which is hosted by Ravensbourne University London and was created with the expertise of Ravensbourne academics, has been nominated for an internationally renowned FOCAL award.

The archive, which compiles hundreds of iconic and nostalgic clips from the BBC’s history, is in the running for the ‘Best Use of Footage on Innovative Platforms’ category at the 2021 FOCAL International Awards.

FOCAL, which stands for the Federation of Commercial Audio-visual Libraries, is the pre-eminent voice and leading authority on audio-visual archives. Its awards are highly regarded in the industry and we are thrilled to be recognised by them.

The winners will be named during a virtual ceremony to be held on Thursday 24 June 2021. The awards, now in their 17th year, contain 10 categories, which all celebrate the promotion of archival footage in various different mediums.

Ravensbourne collaborated with the BBC to launch the Motion Graphics Archive in March. This national treasure project is an incredible resource that showcases the development of motion graphics across the BBC’s history.

Viewers will no doubt recognise many of the hundreds of opening titles, programme inserts, promotion trailers and channel idents contained in the archive. It currently features content from the 1940s up until the early 2000s, and will continue to grow over time.
