Ravensbourne student shortlisted for GFF Fashion Marketing Award
Polly Dodds, a BA (Hons) Fashion Buying and Brand Management student, has been shortlisted for the Graduate Fashion Foundation’s Fashion Marketing Award. The awards showcase the very best in graduating talent.
The Graduate Fashion Foundation (GFF) is a charitable organisation which has been running for the past 28 years and has supported more than 100,000 newly graduated and undergraduate students. Playing an integral role for young people in the fashion industry, GFF helps to bridge the gap between students and employers. With an emphasis on connectivity within the fashion industry, the GFF’s premiere event, Graduate Fashion Week, looks to promote innovation, diversity and inclusion. GFF have also had a hand in launching some of the most successful designers, such as Ravensbourne alumna Stella McCartney, Christopher Bailey MBE, Giles Deacon, Matthew Williamson and Julien MacDonald to name a few.
Polly impressed the judges with her project called Revo.co, which is a luxury sample sale platform for use across multiple brands. She has been shortlisted as one of three finalists considered for the award. Polly discusses the concept of her project Revo.co by saying, “the aim for this is to make sample sales more accessible for consumers whilst also capturing the current issue of over consumption by diverting these garments from landfill to loving homes, all from the comfort of your own sofa.”
Polly adds that, “I am thrilled my project captured the attention of the industry expert judges as it opens up a wider conversation of the important sustainability issue. Becoming a finalist will hopefully open more doors and opportunities for me as it's a topic I strongly believe in and could help kick start Revo.co as a brand.”
She also discussed her experience at Ravensbourne stating “my tutors on the BA (Hons) Fashion Buying and Brand Management course offered constant support and encouragement throughout the process giving me confidence in the idea.”
Course Leader for Fashion Buying and Brand Management, Gabrielle Shiner-Hill says “Polly's gap in the market proposal 'Revo.co' a luxury online sample sale platform is not only a new idea in the market but she has also captured the zeitgeist perfectly, offering consumers the chance to find a unique garment whilst also diverting products away from landfill”. Gabrielle adds that “Polly's focus on the marketing and communications of Revo.co has resulted in her wowing the judges, even leading them to say that she should launch it as a start-up.”
Award winners will be announced in September at an event to celebrate the triumphs and hard work of the class of 2020. We are delighted for Polly that she has been shortlisted for the Marketing Award and wish her the best of luck in the next stage of the competition.
