Student sees demonstration stage brought to life at London's Broadcast Video Expo (BVE)

Dominic Martlew, a student on Ravensbourne’s BA (Hons) Digital Film Production course designed a demonstration stage for broadcast, production and media specialists to showcase their equipment at this year’s BVE — the UK’s largest tech event for leading broadcast, production and media innovators.

Currently in his third year of study at Ravensbourne, Dominic created the stage as part of Ravensbourne’s Set Design Unit, in which students were challenged by BVE to propose designs for their Pro Moviemaker Production Stage.

Having been successfully selected after pitching his design, Dominic worked with Sarah Mursal, a professional art director and designer who has worked for companies like the BBC and Marjan Television Network, to refine and implement his designs. The stage took inspiration from London’s architecture and bustling environment. Dominic photographed some of London’s most iconic buildings and used computer aided design to create the finished proposal.

Commenting, Sebastien Brasseur, Head of Marketing at BVE said: “We created a competition as part of Ravensbourne’s Set Design Unit, asking students to propose designs for our Pro Moviemaker Production Stage. The aim was to bring the kit we exhibit here at BVE into a live environment, providing our visitors with hands on experiences.

“As a result of the competition, we collaboratively worked with Dominic for five months, to bring his stage design around iconic buildings to life as part of his final dissertation project. We were delighted with the stage design and the final result on the show floor. Following the show, we’re pleased to say we’ll be donating the set back to the university to reuse on future projects. We wish Dominic the very best for his future career!”
