Lecturer presented award by esteemed photojournalist at National Portrait Gallery

Chris Frazer Smith, Sessional Lecturer for BA (Hons) Digital Photography was awarded third place prize for the National Portrait Gallery’s ‘#OnlyHumanNPG’ photography competition from over 2,000 entries by esteemed photojournalist Martin Parr.

The competition was run as part of a major exhibition at the National Portrait Gallery, celebrating the work of Martin Parr, who has become one of the UK’s best loved photographers for his revealing explorations of British identity.

Chris was recognised for ‘Pat and Arthur, Kensal Rise, London’. Growing up in East Anglia, Chris pursued his passion for photography from an early age, going on to win numerous international awards including The Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize and the Lucie International Photographer of The Year Award. His photography generally focuses on portraiture in his commissioned and self-directed work.

Commenting Chris said: “Out of over 2,000 entries my picture ‘Pat and Arthur, Kensal Rise, London’ was among nine photographs selected by Martin Parr for the '#OnlyHumanNPG’ competition. I’ve met Martin before, he’s a charming man and his retrospective show at the National Portrait Gallery is stunning.”

His work is on display at the Old Print Sales Gallery until Tuesday 4 June as part of the competition.
