Publication date:Ravensbourne University London have a brand-new neighbour, thanks to the opening of The Design District Canteen. The flourishing Greenwich peninsula is now home to a stunning food hall offering delicious international street food.
Located a stone’s throw away from the main Ravensbourne building, the acclaimed Design District is London’s emerging one-stop hub for creative industries. This bustling area was recently named as one of the 100 greatest places in the world by TIME magazine.
It is also home to our newly-opened building, the ‘Institute for Creativity and Technology’, a state-of-the-art centre for research and the new home of postgraduate study at Ravensbourne.
Standing side-by-side, the Institute and the Canteen form two of the Design District’s 16 striking buildings, which were all designed by pioneering architects. This thriving community, and the world-famous O2 arena, are on the doorstep of the main Ravensbourne building.
The Canteen is striking, with its bold cloud-like structure and lush botanical interior. Designed by Madrid-based architects, SelgasCano, the food hall contains a bar and six independent food vendors, who offer a range of delicious international street food.
The local businesses available at The Canteen include:
- Guasa, which specialises in Venezuelan buns called Arepas
- Eat Lah, which serves up Malaysian rice bowls and sweet treats
- Ehla, whose signature dish is falafel with Eastern Mediterranean flavours
- Italian street food experts Sugo
- Gourmet toastie specialists Toasted
- Raastawalla, which creates family recipe-inspired Kolkata street food.
In the bar, you can sit back and relax with your favourite beverage, whether it be a coffee, cocktail, tea, pint or a glass of wine. What’s more, the bar is offering Ravensbourne students a sweet 10% discount when they show their Student ID.
We look forward to working alongside the Canteen as part of this exciting community. Stay tuned for upcoming events in the Canteen, including floristry brunches, wine tasting, comedy nights, live music and much more!
