Ravensbourne presented their Class of 2018 graduation ceremonies at the iconic Barbican Centre again this year, with both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees awarded to School of Media and School of Design graduates.

The day’s proceedings began with the School of Media ceremony. Ravensbourne’s Undergraduate students from the broadcast, photography, film, media, music and sound courses received their awards from Dr Gary Pritchard, Dean of the School of Media.

Dr. Jo Twist OBE, was awarded a Visiting Professorship during the ceremony, in recognition of her many contributions to Ravensbourne. As CEO of UK Interactive Entertainment or Ukie, Jo is at the helm of the UK's not-for-profit trade body for the games and interactive entertainment industry, which represents companies of all sizes, working across online, mobile apps, consoles and much more. As well as giving talks and becoming a senior colleague on the School of Media’s Media Advisory Board she has also been a key advisor in the development of Ravensbourne’s new BA (Hons) Games Design course, which was launched this year.

Actor, writer, award-winning stand-up comedian and filmmaker Andi Osho, was also conferred the title of Honorary Fellow during the ceremony. Andi studied Television Programme Operations at Ravensbourne, completing the Higher National Diploma in 1993. She has gone on to give performances as a stand-up comedian at Reading Festival, Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow, Live at The Apollo and many more, seeing equal success as a writer. Her comedy horror short, Twin Things, was recently broadcast on Sky Arts, and her triple award-winning short film, Brit.i.am, has screened at film festivals around the world.

Speaking to graduands at the ceremony, Andi joked: “I’d like to thank Ravensbourne for this award. I didn’t know what an honorary fellowship was! I had to Google it to make sure I hadn’t been signed up to some sort of pyramid scheme or something — turns out it’s a good thing!”

She added: “You are embarking on an amazing journey. At times it will seem tough, unachievable and pointless but in a moment it can transform into something great and unexpected.”

The second ceremony saw students from the School of Design presented with their awards. Undergraduate and postgraduate fashion, architecture and design courses received their degrees from Professor Lawrence Zeegen, Dean of the School of Design.

Commenting, Professor Linda Drew, Vice Chancellor said: “I feel very privileged to be able to lead our graduation ceremonies this year — the first since gaining our new title, Ravensbourne University London. Graduation is one of the most exciting times of the year for us: an opportunity to recognise all our students have achieved and thank them for helping make Ravensbourne the vibrant, exciting and creative university it is today.”
