2023 has been another remarkable year for Ravensbourne!

With only a couple of weeks left of 2023, we are in awe of what our talented cohort of students have achieved this year. 

From the award wins, to the international collaborations, to our record breaking graduation attendance, it’s been a huge year for Ravensbourne!  

It’s never easy to narrow it down, but we have shortlisted our top 10 stories from the year to create our ‘Year in Review 2023’ gallery.

A group of students celebrate at NaSTAs student TV awards

Ravensbourne hosted 50th NaSTA student TV awards

April 2023

This year Ravensbourne students hosted the UK’s most prestigious and longest running student TV awards - National Student Television Awards (NaSTAs). The entire large-scaled ceremony was organised, planned, and pulled together by members of Creative Capital, a content creation society founded and run by Ravensbourne students.

Paulina Adelia Grönlund with her award winning designs on Kopparberg bottles

Illustration student won Kopparberg cider design competition

May 2023

BA (Hons) Illustration for Communication student Paulina Adelia Grönlund’s winning designs were featured on Kopparberg’s three most popular flavoured cider variants last summer across the UK. The theme was ‘free to be yourself’ and her spooky designs quickly captured Kopparberg’s creative team.

Fashion models wear designs made by Ravensbourne students

Students showcase at London and Paris Fashion Week 2023

June 2023

For the third consecutive year, Ravensbourne students were invited by the British Council to exhibit at one of the most prestigious events in the fashion calendar, London Fashion Week. Ravensbourne was one of only a handful of universities selected to exhibit. Selected students were also invited to exhibit their work at Paris Fashion Week.

Second-year student’s whimsical animation went viral

June 2023

Millions of people around the world were moved by an animation created by our second-year BA (Hons) Illustration for Communication student Niamh Bradbury, after it became a runaway hit on Instagram. The 10-second clip captured audiences around the world and people flooded the comments section, expressing how it made them feel.

Design students help create Federer-approved tennis courts

July 2023

Our BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Design students helped bring new life to the Bostall Gardens tennis courts, located near the Ravensbourne building in Greenwich. Their brilliant design even received the stamp of approval from legendary tennis icon Roger Federer at a special unveiling ceremony.

Ravensbourne alumna’s film won top prize at Sundance Festival

September 2023

Not only did our Ravensbourne alumna, Charlotte Regan, premiere her new film ‘Scrapper’ at the Sundance Film Festival 2023, she also won its Grand Jury Prize in the ‘World Cinematic Dramatic’ category. Written and directed by Charlotte, this accolade is considered to be one of the biggest awards to achieve at the prestigious film festival.

Two design students with the client who received the bespoke bike seat

Students won prestigious award for bespoke bike seat

October 2023

Our Product Design students Chi and Anna won the RCA Helen Hamlyn Fixperts Award 2023 for their innovative, bespoke bike seat that enabled their amputee client to ride a bike again. Working closely with the client, Chi and Anna went through various design iterations to ensure that the seat fit met her particular needs.

Students take part in Obama Foundation collaboration for second-year running

November 2023

Students from Ravensbourne teamed up with students in Chicago from the Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance (MBK) to create a limited-edition product for a globally recognised brand for the second consecutive year. They designed and branded a limited-edition product launch for KitKat, which they presented to company executives.

June Sarpong and Misan Harriman awarded Honorary Doctorates at graduation

December 2023

Television presenter, author, and activist June Sarpong, and acclaimed photographer, entrepreneur, and social justice advocate, Misan Harriman, were awarded honorary doctorates by Ravensbourne University London. They received these awards in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the fields of broadcasting and photography, respectively.

Ravensbourne achieves global recognition via RIBA validation

December 2023

In a groundbreaking milestone, Ravensbourne’s BA (Hons) Interior Design Environment Architectures (IDEAs) course has become the only interior architecture course in the world to achieve validation from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), after attaining this prestigious recognition alongside our BA (Hons) Architecture course.
