Zafir Ameen BA (Hons), MArch
Biography
Zafir is an Architectural Designer and Educator, with extensive experience across the built environment, education and non-profit sectors.
Having joined Ravensbourne in 2024 as a Sessional Lecturer, Zafir has taught on the Professionalism modules for Foundation, Year 1 and Year 3. In parallel, Zafir works at architectural charity Open City, managing educational outreach programmes for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. Zafir also co-founded Defrente Studio, a non-profit design practice operating at the intersection of architecture and activism.
Previously, Zafir worked for leading studios Hawkins/Brown and dRMM, and managed an event programme at the London School of Architecture.
With a vested interest in empowering young and marginalised voices, Zafir is also heavily involved with architectural institutions. He is currently an Expert Reference for the ARB, consulting on Professional Practical Experience and wider education reforms. At the RIBA, Zafir is serving a 3-year term on the National Council as Student representative, lobbying for increased rights and agency for young people.
