Zafir Ameen BA (Hons), MArch
Biography
An architectural designer and educator, Zafir brings extensive experience spanning the built environment, education, and non-profit sectors.
Since joining Ravensbourne in 2024 as a Sessional Lecturer, Zafir has taught professional practice modules across foundation, and years 1 and 3. Alongside his academic role, he works at the architectural charity Open City, managing educational outreach programmes for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds. He also co-founded Defrente Studio, a non-profit design practice operating at the intersection of architecture and activism.
Previously, Zafir contributed to leading studios Hawkins/Brown and dRMM, and managed an event programme at the London School of Architecture (LSA).
With a strong commitment to empowering young and marginalised voices, he is also heavily involved with architectural institutions. Currently, Zafir serves as an Expert Reference for the ARB, consulting on Professional Practical Experience (PPE) and education reforms. At the RIBA, he is in the midst of a 3-year term on the National Council as Student Representative, advocating for increased rights and agency for young people.
