Julie Van Severen MA

Biography

Julie Van Severen is a Belgian-born graphic designer and illustrator, based in London.

She graduated from Sint Lucas in Antwerp in 2005, and holds her MFA degree from the Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem, The Netherlands.

During her time at Werkplaats Typografie, she studied under the supervision of Karel Martens, Armand Mevis (Mevis & Van Deursen), Paul Elliman, Maxine Kopsa and James Goggin.

Julie’s work started out in the field of illustration and fashion but slowly evolved into conceptual projects, branding, typography and book design. However, she has never lost her love for drawing.

In 2010, she relocated to London to work for Graphic Thought Facility (GTF), working there for over six years before starting her own practice.

Julie has worked on a variety of projects ranging from branding to art catalogues. In collaboration with Paul Neale she has worked for the likes of Damien Hirst, Tracey Emin and Rachel Whiteread, among many other artists.

She is currently combining design projects with lecturing in graphic design at Ravensbourne.
