Dan Duran HNC BA MA SFHEA

Biography

Before joining Ravensbourne University as Head of Design, Dan Duran had a successful career working in Visual Effects (VFX) on films and commercials.

He worked at Moving Picture Company, one of the top three visual effects posthouses in Soho, London, starting as a runner before working his way up to senior artist.

During his time working through the DotCom bubble (1995-2001) he says "I was lucky to work on high profile commercials such as Guinness, Motorola, Nokia and on films such as the Harry Potter franchise and James Bond”, ask him about the Chocolate frog, Golden Snitch or the opening sequence to the second film with the blue car! - full IMDB credit list. 

He also worked closely with the music promo director, Dawn Shadforth, on Kylie’s 'Chocolate' and Primal Scream’s 'Some Velvet Morning' featuring Kate Moss. Leading on VFX he was part of the team awarded an Epica D’or and D&AD Wood Pencil for Nike 'Musical Chairs' in 2004.

After a successful career in industry, Dan pivoted into a freelance Graphic Design practice before going on to teach at UAL Camberwell, UAL Chelsea, Royal Academy of Art. Directly before Ravensbourne he was at University of East London. At UEL, Dan ran the Art & Design area, managing 11 courses covering levels 3 to level 7. He was course leader for a number of courses in the visual communication area including Graphic Design, Illustration and Design Interactions. During this 13 years period he led on the development of five new courses and introduced a new shared framework for all courses. Subject Review and two revalidations.
