Welcome information

To help prepare you for starting the course in September I suggest the following:

Drawing: Get drawing outside this summer. Habitual practice with observational drawing will enable you to confidently begin your creative journey.  

Reading (optional): You may wish to purchase and familiarise yourself with the following key texts (you may find well priced second hand copies online). These texts will give you an idea of the critical understandings and imaginative possibilities in the field of Character Design and Concept Art.  

Dynamic Anatomy by Burne Hogarth  

The Movie Art of Syd Mead by Syd Mead and Craig Hodgetts 

The Incal by Alexandro Jodorowsky and Moebius 

Sketching for Animation by Peter Parr  

Course equipment 

You must have a suitable laptop to complete your course. You will not be able to successfully complete this course using a tablet device.

Your course welcome week activities will be taking place on the following dates. This is a really important time for you to meet fellow students, your course team and become part of the Ravensbourne community. These sessions will cover key information about your course and everything you need to set you up for your studies.  

Monday 16 September: 9.45am – 4.45pm, room R3-211

Wednesday 18 September: 9.00am – 4.30pm, room R3-211

All activities will take place at our R3 building: Ravensbourne University London, 2nd Floor, 14 Pier Walk, London, SE10 0ES. 

Students’ Union Welcome Festival

If you’re an international student, it is important that you attend in this week to complete your enrolment, get all the information you need to best prepare your for studying in the UK and meet fellow international students on your course. Please ensure that you arrive on time to get the most out of the day. 

Wednesday 11 September: 9.30am - 10.00am - In-Person Enrolment

Once you have completed your in-person enrolment you will be able to attend one of our International Induction sessions. Please plan to spend the day on campus with us.

Your teaching starts in the week commencing Monday 23 September. You will have three teaching sessions each week as follows: 

Monday, 9.00am - 1.00pm, room 211 - R3 Building

Monday, 2.00pm - 6.00pm, room 211 - R3 Building 

Tuesday, 2.00pm - 6.00pm, room 212 - R3 Building   

Occasionally your timetable might get updated due to a room or other change.

Due to the size and set up of your course it is not possible to share your timetable information prior to your enrolment. Once you have completed enrolment you can find out how to check your timetable here  

If you have any questions ahead of joining us, our online drop-in sessions will take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, 1.00pm - 2.00pm UK Time.
