Concept and creative process
A trailer for BBC's Wimbledon coverage in 1989. The designer chose a live action solution to solve the perennial challenge of finding a new way of publicising this famous fixed point in the annual sporting calendar. It was a stylised form of live action using fast, almost continuous overlapping dissolves to get from one image to the next, succinctly telling the story of the pre-match preparation in the dressing room. The film was desaturated of colour to a warm monochrome tinged with Wimbledon purple, except for certain objects like the tennis balls and the kit bag, which were colourised and enhanced with a Wimbledon green to further underscore the branding.
