Concept and creative process
Titles for a TV50 programme ‘The Story of Royal Broadcasting’, in which David Jessel looked back over 50 years of BBC coverage of Royal events. It was one of a number of programmes broadcast in 1986 in a celebration of 50 years of BBC Television broadcasting since its launch. The opening sequence was composed of a number of scenarios filmed in different room sets, which indicated through each individual style of set dressing, the changing tastes and fashions in interior decoration and the important place of radio and television in the nation’s consciousness over the passing decades. The accompanying radio soundtracks, and from the early 1950s onwards, the television pictures on the home TV sets, highlighted the coverage of the many royal broadcast events that had spoken to the nation.
