Concept and creative process
These ‘Top of the Pops’ titles, tie humans and music together as statuesque figures in a race to the top of the charts. Each figure moves through shot, finally revealing the master logo, which was embossed on a metallic disc, held upwards like a trophy. The titles were created in a 16mm live action shoot using a turntable, models and physical props, like sound speakers, headphones and an iconic early microphone. We restricted the colours to blue and yellow, set against an industrial steel texture and composited all of the elements together with effects in Flame at Red Post-Production. TOTP2 logotype was designed by Paula Williams in Template Gothic font and the 3D animation was created by Infynity.
