The Ship - trail (2002)

Concept and creative process

This sequence was created to brand the BBC's documentary series about a 21st-century voluntary crew on a six-week journey from the east coast of Australia to Jakarta, Indonesia, retracing the famous voyage of Lieutenant James Cook aboard a replica of his HM Bark Endeavour. Dynamic graphic wave lines and typographic destinations were combined with live action of the ship itself to give a sense of the adventure across this series. Live action from the programme was treated in post-production to create a day to night timelapse. This was combined with 3D wave lines and typography. These represented the longitude and latitude as well as points on the journey.
