Concept and creative process
The titles for a series on the language and culture of Japan, which took as its inspiration the faces of Japanese people and framed them against backgrounds of Japanese natural and built environments. This montage assembled on a Quantel Hal is enhanced by the animating brushstrokes of Japanese characters on banners which finally resolve into the programme title. The backgrounds for programme content sequences explained the origins of some Japanese characters.
