Concept and creative process
‘Gardeners’ World’ is a long-running series on BBC Two, first launched in 1968 and still going strong in 2020. It has a practical magazine format with presenters showing viewers how to garden. The title sequence was created in a digital edit suite from a montage of garden activity throughout the seasons, including real-time and time-lapse footage of flowers, vignetted in circular and rectilinear shapes as if on a postcard. These multi-screen composites transitioned one to another via animated wipes of snow, rain, clouds, wind and finally splash effects to reveal the new programme logo.
