Concept and creative process
Opening titles for the 1987 election results programme. The 1987 Election graphics team comprised Howard Moses, George Daulby, Rod Ellis, Josie Gibson, and Laurie Russell. The year-long project comprised titles, constant storyboarding of content graphics, liaising with the BBC regions, as well as extensive graphic testing with the BBC’s Computer Graphics Workshop team.
For the computer modelling of the title sequence, Black Rod, Air Chief Marshal Sir John Gingell, agreed to supply various elevation plans of the Houses of Parliament based on the original drawings by Pugin and Barry.
Rod Ellis designed the fly around the Palace of Westminster which was then used as the main part of the generic title sequence. At Crown Computer Graphics, Chris Fynes coded the choreography and John Speirs digitised the plans. The end pack shot title was designed by Howard Moses and computer generated at Electric Image.
