Concept and creative process
‘Crystal Tipps and Alistair’ was an animated series for children, designed and produced originally by Graham McCallum and Hilary Hayton who worked in the BBC Graphic Design Department. The BBC producer was Michael Grafton-Robinson. It was first shown in 1971 – 1974, in a series of 50 five-minute episodes plus a 20-minute Christmas Special, with all of the animation created by Maggie Clarke of Richard Taylor Cartoons. There was no spoken dialogue, but a musical accompaniment composed by Paul Reade.
