Concept and creative process
A ten part series presented by Nick Ross which took cameras behind the scenes of crimes, reconstructing the dramas and telling the stories focussing on the victims. For the title sequence the brick wall background, a white plastic vacuum-formed version of a life size wall, was supplied by scenic services. This was photographed to emphasise the contrast between the light and dark areas and was then used later in the edit as a background for the live action which was composited onto the wall, as if projected. The wall thus took on the characteristics of the chosen shot. Live action clips from the programmes were chosen and edited as the sequence was built up. The flame was shot and used as a wipe and the shadow effect was created on Paintbox. The sequence was edited and composited on Quantel Henry by Mike McGee at the Framestore.
