Bitsa (1991)

Concept and creative process

An explosion of different creative approaches was used to convey this DIY arts programme for children. Based around the name, the sequence culminated in a three-dimensional model made from a myriad of recycled materials, when the model was viewed from a specific angle the programme title ‘Bitsa’ was revealed. Both traditional cell and stop-frame animation utilised everyday household objects to dance around the screen and complement the title music. The sequences were shot on a rostrum camera and composited together in a film optical. A scale model was made for the final logo and a full size studio version was also created for the live action programme introduction.
