‘Whirlwind’ was a BBC Two channel ident for the Autumn campaign 1996 with an enigmatic scenario. Into a surreal landscape of delicate, vertical glass objects, enters the ‘2’, spinning at such a speed that it is simply a whirlwind-like blur. It slaloms between the ranks of glass objects, narrowly avoiding them all and comes to a halt momentarily by the one in the foreground. But the ‘2’, anxious to continue on its way again, strikes the glass object as it whirls away out of shot, leaving the object rocking back and forth on its base. The entire animation was computer generated.
