Concept and creative process
‘Mold Opening' was one of a series of campaign ideas produced to package BBC One programming from 1993 to 1995. With the '1' logo in a state of flux just after the 1991 redesign by Martin Lambie-Nairn. It was felt that a fresh ‘new’ creative approach was required, which translated into concepts in which the new BBC One was depicted as being literally hot off the production line. The idents were created mostly by building scale models and filming them on a motion control camera rig. There was very little post-production effects work required other than some rig removal. All of the lighting effects and the set backdrops were filmed in-camera.
