Concept and creative process
‘Woodpecker' was one of the six BBC Two channel idents designed for the Winter campaign 2000 ‘Excalibur’, ‘Catalyst’, ‘Wave’, ‘Predator’ and ‘Kebab’. These were the first series of idents to be shot 16 x 9 and were released on January 1st 2000 for the New Millennium. 'Woodpecker' was shot as a stop frame animation. Three different size woodpeckers were animated simultaneously with additional ones added in post-production to create more of a ‘forest’ feel. The audio has a subtle reference to the famous woody woodpecker tune.
