BBC News - promo (2001)

Concept and creative process

The design brief was to create a promotional trail showcasing the varied output of BBC News, using a great many clips of news reporters in action and namechecking the programmes that they worked on. A panning multiscreen montage of overlapping screens and voices was animated and composited by James Adamson in Flame over a scrolling list of programmes, and an animated background that Steven Aspinall had originally designed for the BBC Sports coverage of the 1996 Olympic Games. The sequence resolved with an animation of the strapline “Making sense of a changing world” over static screens of the key presenters and the moving background.
