Concept and creative process
This second version of the BBC2 Cube colour ident replaced its film predecessor in 1969 by a single coloured ‘2’ on a black cube rotated by a device, and transmitted live by the NODDY camera, which achieved the same result with more control and economy. The colour was achieved by adding a synthetic colour-generation process to the camera’s monochrome output. This is the second version of the Cube series with a mid blue ‘2’ on a dark blue background, separated by a continuous white line from the word COLOUR centred below, now set in seriffed italic caps.
