Publication date:Two sets of Ravensbourne BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Design students have won industry-renowned 'pencils' at the 2024 D&AD New Blood awards.
The D&AD New Blood Awards is a global competition that recognises creative excellence in design and advertising. It attracts over 6,000 entries each year.
Entrants are judged by panels of leading industry members. This prestigious award, represented by a pencil-shaped trophy, is a solid platform to kick-start careers for aspiring young creatives.
This year, we are proud to celebrate two groups of winners:
- Charlie Jones and Harriet Power, second-year BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Design students
- Ravinia Rose Ekwealor and Leleese Francis-Lewis, BA (Hons) Advertising and Brand Design graduates
The students answered briefs set by real companies to enter.
Charlie quote
The New Blood awards are a great opportunity for us as young creatives to show industry the potential we have to create change and do good in the world – we really hope our work shows this.”
Charlie and Harriet completed a brief for Airbnb. They proposed Airbnb Community, a service designed specifically with Gen Z in mind, who are digitally savvy and used to forming communities through social media.
Airbnb would be a platform that allows like-minded people to connect and meet up in local spaces based on their interests. It also allows communities and clubs to host events and meet ups.
Ravinia and Leleese won for their Nandos 'Commit to Flavour' campaign, which urges Gen Z customers to make the chain their 'go-to destination' for eating out.
As an audience who are eager to seek out and try new foods, it utilises social media to instil loyalty and excitement among Gen Z customers, highlighting Nando's range of flavour combinations.
Paula quote
We are extremely proud of our students' achievements. D&AD New Blood is an inspiring competition for the next generation of creative talent interested in the creative industry working towards a fairer more sustainable future.”
Charlie said: “Since first joining the course, we’ve always looked up to previous graduates that have won New Blood pencils, so we couldn’t believe it when we found out we had won.
“We are both so chuffed to win a pencil for work that addresses an issue we feel passionate about whilst having lots of fun creating it. We couldn’t have done it without the hard work of our tutors Paula and Steve, huge thank you to them!”
The awards were presented by D&AD President 2023/24, Jack Renwick.
