picture your future

Using any kind of camera, you can submit an original image based on portraiture, architecture, sport or landscape – use your imagination! The winners will receive a camera from Panasonic Lumix, and will have their entry professionally framed and shared on the Ravensbourne social channels.

Age entry options

There are two entry options: ages 14-18 and ages 19+ which any students can enter. Our experienced panel will judge both, with one main winner and one people’s choice winner announced for each category.

The competition will open for entries on Monday 12 July 2021, and close on Friday 13 August 2021.

The shortlisted entries will be shown in our online exhibition which will be open for people's choice voting. All winners will be announced in late September 2021.

Competition details

  1. The brief for this year's Capture competition is 'Picture your future'. We accept any kind of original image including those taken and edited on smartphones.
  2. There is one entry accepted per applicant. Your entry should be no more than 1MB in size, accompanied by a short caption.
  3. Enter using the form below, attaching your image before submitting.
  4. Shortlisted entries will be shown on our online exhibition, as well as on social channels, once the competition has closed on 13 August 2021.
  5. The people's choice winner will be selected by popular vote, with the main winners in each entry being selected by our panel of judges.
  6. Join our online Summer School 2021 for a photography workshop if you want tips on taking and editing your images.

Our judges

Our judges have decades of photography experience between them. Geraint is the course leader on the BA (Hons) Digital Photography course and Tiana is a technical tutor on the course. Find out more about them below.

Geraint

Geraint Cunnick entered Higher Education in 2001 and helped develop the BA and MA photography content at the University of the Creative Arts before becoming Head of Department for Fine Art and Photography at the University of Wales.

He then joined the University of South Wales before joining Ravensbourne as Digital Photography course leader in 2016. 

Geraint is currently the chair of the Association of Photographers’ Education Working Group and has previously advised the Welsh Assembly Government as well as Skill-Set England on Photographic Education. He is also a Liveryman of the Worshipful Livery Company of Wales. 

Tiana

Tiana Lea Technical Tutor on the Digital Photography course

Tiana Lea has worked in many roles within the digital photography industry, from assisting photographers to equipment distribution. 

Tiana is a working photographer who specialises in portraiture. Her work focuses on people, places, and stories, producing work for a number of individual clients including brand consulting & design firm, Landor. 

Graduating with a first-class BA (hons) Digital Photography degree from Ravensbourne University, Tiana was recently shortlisted as one of D&AD's New Blood Festival 'Ones to Watch 2020'.

We will also be joined by a guest judge from Panasonic Lumix UK.
