Concept and creative process
The title sequence for Terry Wogan’s hosted chat show, featuring live studio interviews with famous and notable people. Designer Bob English recalls: “There really wasn’t much of a concept for this title sequence, given Terry Wogan’s familiarity to the British public, apart from the cult of his personality. I decided to have a mechanical model built with 5 side-by-side rotating ‘Toblerones’, and to add photographs of Terry to each surface of the Toblerone. A studio photo shoot of Terry goofing around yielded both headshots and full-body shots which were split up and attached to each surface of the Toblerone. We shot lots of takes under a Rostrum camera. I then had the idea that this device could support the full shots of Terry and would enable us to blend the title sequence with the live show, which proved to be a smooth transition”.
