Concept and creative process
BBC MediaArc broadcast design team were commissioned to produce a new brand identity system for the return of BBC One’s flagship music show ‘Top of the Pops’, including logo, title sequence, in-programme graphics.The key clients at BBC Music Entertainment were Andi Peters and Tony Gregory. The design team of Gregory Millar and Ant James were supported by creative director Jane Fielder and design producer Janet Smith. The creative ‘soundwave’ shows a city hit by a musical wave of sound. As it pulses, it brings a futuristic landscape to life. A set of dancers suddenly appear out of the soundwave as they perform acrobatic moves in time to the beat of the TOTP soundtrack.
The dancers were filmed at high speed against chromakey green-screen at studios in west London. Tim Green was director of photography.
