Concept and creative process
Opening titles for ‘The Tenant of Wildfell Hall’, an adaptation of Anne Brontë's novel about a young woman who moves to Yorkshire with her son in the 19th century.
Jean Braid recalls working on the show in 1969. “I drew a nineteenth century style imaginary painting of ‘Wildfell Hall’ set in the moorlands of Yorkshire. The grass was meant to be animated to move with the howling wind but in the end decided against it. The producer had specifically asked for the setting with the easel and had asked me to do the titles based around an earlier production I had done for ‘Pride and Prejudice’. This is not one of my memorable pieces”.
