‘Star Cops' was a science-fiction drama series based on the activities of an International Space Police Force. Somewhat underrated at the time, the show attracted a devoted fan base and became a cult, despite only running to one series of nine programmes. The title sequence used the spacesuit and helmet worn by the Star Cops on active duty as the hook on which to hang the extra-terrestrial images such as a boot print in the dusty surface of another planet, and the view of the Earth and the surface of other planets seen from space. The sequence involved rostrum camera filming and the creation of customised mattes to integrate model shoots and backgrounds in the final film optical.
