Relative Values (1991)

Concept and creative process

A series of programmes exploring the value of art. Why is a discarded sketch from a dead artist called Vincent Van Gogh worth millions, while those of a living artist called Vincent Van Gogh are worthless? The title as a painting hanging in a gallery bookends a montage sequence of live action footage of art auctions, typography and painterly mark making, setting the context for the programme's subject matter.
