Concept and creative process
‘Madson' was a six-part drama series starring Ian McShane, about a man trying to discover the truth behind his false imprisonment. The brief was to use live action footage supplied by the production. The task was to find a way of using the live action of the leading man and to give it some style. As the drama was about a man coming out of prison, I decided to put the action in a small square, which opened up as the man is released at the end of the sequence. The live action was turned into monochrome and given more contrast in order to make it look more dramatic and stark, befitting the subject matter. The sequence was edited with the programme editor.
