Concept and creative process
The 1955 release of the Otto Preminger film ‘The Man with the Golden Arm’ with titles by the American designer Saul Bass had a big influence on the cohort of television designers emerging at that time. This sequence used a similar idea of white lines on a black background to create an interesting way of displaying the typography. Very low budget, simple hand animation of paper strips in a sequence of jump cuts filmed directly under the rostrum camera.
