Grand Strategy 1939-45 (1972)

Concept and creative process

A World War II documentary series ‘Grand Strategy’ used sculpted bas-relief portraits of the war leaders themselves for the opening title, designed by Stefan Pstrowski. It took the form of a monument, which also served as a background for the programme title and subtitle lettering cut into its façade. The panel was lit and shot live action in a small studio to timings predetermined by the accompanying music.
