Don't Quote Me (1975)

Concept and creative process

'Don't Quote Me' was a series of programmes in which issues covered by the press, from sport to politics to the arts, were discussed by the people whom the press stories concerned and the journalists who had written the stories. For the titles, designer Mina Martinez set up a block of metal type capital letters under a rostrum camera, composed as if about to be used to print the programme title. A colour effect was reflected into the surface as the type panned beneath the camera, with a zoom rotation and a repetition of the whole programme title taking over in sync with the sound design. The sequence was filmed by Bert Walker at Zephyr Films.
