Concept and creative process
The ident 'Optic' was produced in 1992 at the same time as ‘Powder’ and was designed to be used before arts-themed programmes. Suspended fibre optic rods filmed in motion at high speed created an abstract version of the '2'. Restricted to the BBC2 viridian green brand colour, the fibre optic '2' was filmed with a high-speed camera at Cell Animation by lighting cameraman Doug Foster. The strobing was added in post-production at Framestore by Mike McGee.
