Concept and creative process
Inspired by the motion of opposing forces, ‘Punchy’ was designed by FutureDeluxe to illustrate two opposite sides coming together as BBC 2. With a rough and wrestling start, we see uneven movements from two opposing sides of glass-like rods in tones of red and blue. The forces sliding in opposing directions crash briefly together in the centre of the screen to form the curve of the ‘2’ ident. The animated cycle repeats from the beginning and the action is choreographed to an echoing, metallic, clashing sound design. The ident was created using a combination of CGI done through Cinema4D and finished off in After Effects.
