BBC One 'Planet Earth Live' ident (2011)

Concept and creative process

An ident for which the BBC One Circles campaign format was used in order to promote and celebrate the BBC’s most ambitious global wildlife documentary series ‘Planet Earth Live’. The programme went out 3 times a week throughout May 2012 with real-time footage and reports from five continents by wildlife experts and documentary film makers, monitoring the animals in their localities. It was broadcast to 140 countries. Over a dramatic shot of the curve of the Earth at sunrise, the BBC logo animation begins as the image does a fast 180 degree rotation centred on the sun. The circle of the logo frames the same sun now rising from behind clouds over a savannah landscape, with elephants silhouetted and a flock of birds flying across the dawn sky, being observed by wildlife rangers in their 4x4 vehicles.
